The right soil mix can help your plants grow healthy and strong. As someone who likes to water my plants every few days my soil mix is extra chunky. This allows for more than enough aeration for plant roots to breath. I add Orchid Bark as my main ingredient they give plant roots a tree like surface to hold on to. I adjust my mediums depending on the size of the roots and pot size. Hoyas roots are in general much thinner than the roots of Aroids. Which for me means instead of using the coarse or large pieces of perlite and bark I mix in fine grades.
For Aroids in a 6 inch or bigger pot.
50% Orchid Bark large or medium
20% Perlite
20% Charcoal
10% Pumice or Tree Fern
For Hoyas & Aroids 2-6 inch planter.
50% Orchid Bark fine
20% Perlite
20% Charcoal
10% Pumice for Aroids / 10% Cactus Soil for Hoyas
Premium New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is harvested from the pristine environment of New Zealand. Naturally air dried to ensure a maximum Water Holding Capacity (WHC) of 96%. This allows the moss to retain water and nutrients for easy release to the plant without accumulating unwanted salts. Great for propagation and addition to your soil mix.
It is one very important ingredient for every potting mix. Perlite helps prevent soil compaction and promotes strong root developmentIt improves drainage and aeration in potting mixes which if not provided can causes deadly root rot.

Charcoal is an all-natural high carbon material that can help improve soils. It is produced by heating untreated hardwoods to very high temperatures in a process called pyrolysis.
The result is an excellent soil conditioner which adds better drainage in containers.
Also great as soil cover.
